NVMe dedicated serverA whole cartridge, your drives on PCIe.

An NVMe dedicated server from Server Room is a whole HPE Moonshot cartridge with its own NVMe SSD, root access and a 1 Gbps unmetered port, from $62.58 a month.

  • NVMe on PCIe
  • RAID 1 at checkout
  • five cities
  • Monthly, no contract

Choose the processor line, one drive or two mirrored, and the memory. A build that is already racked is handed over about 30 minutes after payment approval. A build made to order takes 4 to 24 hours.

The NVMe lines, each priced as a complete build

NVMe is sold on three Moonshot cartridge lines: Intel Xeon D-1500, Intel Xeon E3-1585L v5 and Intel Xeon E-2286M. Each price is the full machine written under it, processor, memory, drive and port, taken from the catalogue the checkout bills from.

Dollar prices apply in the US cities. Amsterdam and Bucharest bill the same figure in euros. A configured build pays a one-time setup fee of $29.00; a racked server ordered exactly as it stands pays none.

Drives

One NVMe drive, or two in RAID 1

Every NVMe cartridge opens in the configurator with one drive. Switch the controller to RAID 1 and it takes a second drive as a mirror, so the server keeps running when one drive fails. Usable space stays the size of one drive.

On the cheapest build, two 240 GB drives in RAID 1 bring the price to $72.37 a month. A mirror is not a backup: it protects against a failed drive, not against a deleted file.

Storage choice

NVMe or SATA SSD dedicated server

Both are flash. The difference is the path between the drive and the processor, and that path decides how much random I/O the server sustains under load.

Question
SATA SSD
NVMe SSD
Link to the processor
SATA III at 6 Gb/s, about 600 MB/s after encoding
PCIe lanes direct to the processor; a PCIe 3.0 x4 link carries about 3.9 GB/s
Command queues
AHCI: one queue of 32 commands
Up to 65,535 queues of up to 65,536 commands each
Best at
Many drives behind a hardware RAID controller, large capacity
Random reads and writes on one or two drives: databases, build servers, search indexes, game servers
On our machines
Rack and blade servers with up to 24 bays, RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5, RAID 6 and RAID 10; SATA SSD up to 15.36 TB, SAS SSD up to 30.72 TB
three cartridge lines, 240 GB to 3.84 TB per drive, one or two drives

Interface limits from the SATA-IO, AHCI and NVM Express specifications. They describe the bus, not a benchmark of our drives.

Pick NVMe when the workload is small random I/O at high queue depth and fits on one or two drives. Pick an SSD dedicated server on a rack or blade line when you need tens of terabytes, RAID 5, 6 or 10, or a hardware controller: build it in the configurator or read about the rack and blade servers. NVMe, SATA SSD and hard disks are compared figure by figure on NVMe vs SSD vs HDD.

What every NVMe server comes with

An unmetered port

1 Gbps with no transfer allowance and no overage line on the invoice. Move up to 10 Gbps on the same server; the 10 Gbps step is $529.00 a month. See 10Gbps dedicated servers.

Root and your operating system

31 installable images across the NVMe lines, including Ubuntu, AlmaLinux, Debian, Windows Server and Proxmox VE. The machine is yours alone: no hypervisor under it unless you install one.

Hardware cover

The included Basic plan answers within 12 hours and replaces failed hardware within 24 hours. Faster plans are listed in the configurator.

Support that can see your server

Chat is answered in seconds by an AI assistant that can check your account and your server. A person takes over whenever you ask.

Monthly terms

No contract. Pay by the month, or take up to 15% off on a 12-month cycle.

Answers

NVMe dedicated server questions

What is an NVMe dedicated server?

A physical server rented whole, with its storage on NVMe SSDs that connect over PCIe instead of SATA. Ours are HPE Moonshot cartridges: processor, memory, drives and port belong to one customer, with root access.

How much does an NVMe dedicated server cost?

From $62.58 a month for Intel Xeon D-1548 Octa Core 2.00 GHz · 32 GB DDR4 · 1 × NVMe-SSD 240 GB · 1 Gbps. The same build with a second drive in RAID 1 is $72.37. A configured build adds a one-time $29.00 setup fee, and the configurator shows the total before you pay.

What is the cheapest NVMe dedicated server?

The Intel Xeon D-1500 line at $62.58 a month, with one 240 GB NVMe drive and a 1 Gbps unmetered port. Paying for 12 months takes up to 15% off.

Is NVMe faster than SSD in a dedicated server?

NVMe is an SSD on a faster bus. A SATA SSD stops at the 6 Gb/s SATA link, about 600 MB/s, with one command queue of 32 entries. An NVMe SSD talks to the processor over PCIe with up to 65,535 queues, which shows most in random I/O under load. For bulk capacity, a rack server with many SATA or SAS SSDs holds far more.

Can I get two NVMe drives in RAID 1?

Yes. Choose RAID 1 in the configurator and the cartridge takes two NVMe drives as a mirror. Usable space is the size of one drive. On the cheapest build, two 240 GB drives bring the price to $72.37 a month.

How much storage can an NVMe SSD server have?

NVMe drives run from 240 GB to 3.84 TB, one or two per cartridge. For a storage server with more room, a rack server holds up to 24 SATA or SAS SSDs behind a hardware RAID controller, with drives up to 30.72 TB.

Where are your NVMe dedicated servers located?

New York, Miami, San Francisco, Amsterdam and Bucharest, on our own network, AS19624. The line cards above show which cities each line is sold in. Amsterdam and Bucharest are billed in euros.

How fast is an NVMe server delivered?

About 30 minutes after payment approval when the build is already racked, and 4 to 24 hours when it is built to order. Payment and fraud review come first and are the part that varies.

Is the bandwidth unmetered?

Yes. The 1 Gbps port has no transfer allowance and no overage price. The NVMe lines go up to 10 Gbps, and the 10 Gbps step is $529.00 a month.

Which operating systems can I install?

31 images across the NVMe lines, including Ubuntu, AlmaLinux, Debian, Windows Server and Proxmox VE, with root access on every one.
